Unique Gifts: Superior Handcrafted Gemstone Globes

When Columbus sailed the ocean blue, in fourteen hundred-ninety-two, a sudden interest in globes of the world swept through Europe. In Germany, in particular, a mathematician
and astronomer named, Martin Behaim, constructed a globe of the known world which, today, remains the only known surviving globe of that period. Known as the Nuremberg Terrestrial Globe, Behaim meticulously crafted his masterpiece from painted parchment strips pasted piece by piece onto a spherical template.
The paintings were created originally in six colors, including a dark-blue sea, brown and green forests, and silver areas of ice and snow. The vicinity of the Cape Verde islands is adorned with a mermaid and a merman, and a single meridian cuts across the globe, spanning 180 degrees from the North Pole to the South Pole at a longitude that is 80 degrees west of Lisbon. The globe was an immediate hit with royalty and wealthy aristocrats of the period, and quickly became a much sought after collectible.
Today, one-of-a-kind globes are still much appreciated and collected the world over, with handcrafted globes fashioned from gemstones and precious metals being the most treasured.
Now, for the first time, High Roller Toys, the upscale online retailer of unique gifts for men and women, is offering individually crafted, handmade gemstone desk globes of a quality and value not seen outside the royal courts of Europe in centuries.

With each country meticulously inlaid with precisely hand-cut and polished gemstones that are representative of that particular region of the world, the sheer visual poetry of these globes is striking from every angle. To see the rich abalone pearl from the Great Barrier Reef forming the profile of Australia, and the deep blue lapis lazuli stones that comprise the seas which surround her, is to behold a treasure so precious and rare as to make the spirit soar. Like beholding Chagall's unique stained-glass windows, or Tiffany's incomparable lamps, these spectacular desk globes bespeak the artistry of genius.

Often passed on as heirlooms, as no two are the same, these magnificent works of art contain lines of longitude and latitude etched in real gold, with the Equator and International Dateline made of Sterling Silver. With countries adorned in amethyst, red jasper, green agate, rhodonite, yellow and white mother of pearl, unakite, jade, and other beautifully hued stones from all over the world, Planet Earth is indeed bejeweled in the colors of the rainbow.

Sitting on an ornate three legged stand with a mariner's compass set in its base, this distinctive and matchless creation brings elegance and class to any study, library, or office.
